1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

Smart Education is delighted to present an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join a dynamic SEN school located in Redruth, Cornwall, as a Teaching Assistant on a full time, permanent basis. The school is split into a secondary department and a primary department. Each pupil's programme is individualised, and work is set at appropriate levels enabling all pupils to access the curriculum. They are one of the few schools in the country to be awarded the Dyslexia Friendly Schools Quality Mark and takes pride in the intervention programmes offered. Outdoor Learning is another unique strength of the school which gives the pupils opportunities to learn in a creative manner away from the classroom.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students aged 5 to 16 with a range of special educational needs, ensuring their well-being and fostering a nurturing learning environment.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and other professionals to implement tailored education plans and strategies that address individual student needs.
  • Assist in classroom activities, offering one-on-one and small group support to enhance learning experiences.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem, confidence, and social interactions.
  • Help create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom atmosphere that encourages students' participation and growth.
  • Contribute to the assessment and progress tracking process by providing accurate observations and feedback.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role, ideally within an SEN or educational setting for 6 months or more.
  • A valid full UK driving license.
  • Grade C or above in Maths and English
  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Empathy, patience, and adaptability when working with diverse student needs and behaviours.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 or 3, or equivalent, will be advantageous.

Contract Type – PERMANENT

Salary - £21,189 - £21,968 pro-rata
