JOB TITLE: SEND Link and Engagement Officer

DIVISION: SEND Inclusion and Wellbeing

1.0    JOB PURPOSE

 

  • To coordinate and provide support across SEND Customer Care and Engagement to agreed standards and timescales
  • To support parents and families in ensuring children with special educational needs and disabilities have their needs met within their local communities as early as possible
  • To work closely with a team of professionals within a local area, supporting schools and families to improve communication and participation of parents, children and young people
  • To assist in the development and implementation of a range of inclusion support services with an aim to build self-reliance and independence for families, children and young people with disabilities and special education

 

2.0    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

To provide an effective customer care engagement and service across the SEND functions in the SEND policy and Performance service area and Inclusion Section. The post holders will be aligned to specific areas of activity including:

 

  1. Delivering an advice and support service, offering appropriate, information, advice and signposting for families through the operation of a contact line, face to face visits, and family forums and network meetings;
  2. Responsibility for maintaining an accurate record of all contacts made with family members and recording progress in relation to achievement against outcomes;
  3. Supporting the production of quality information in a variety of forms to ensure key information is shared to all parents/carers and young people, and other stakeholders;
  4. Establishing and maintain contacts with other relevant agencies from education, health and social care and use these contacts to co-ordinate and focus efforts to maximize the effectiveness of action to achieve outcomes for families;
  5. Supporting multi-disciplinary meetings within a locality and contribute to the identification of families in need of additional support;
  6. Facilitating family forums, drop-in meetings and networks for families;
  7. Working with, and alongside families to access appropriate support within their local community;
  8. In conjunction with the Parent Link Coordinator, regularly review the progress of each contact and ensure that all parties are informed of progress made;
  9. Assisting in the collection of statistical information for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
  10. Having a working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, guidance and legislation;
  11. Maintaining and increasing the knowledge and skills in the legislation, to inform best practice with regard to working with children and families;
  12. Sharing information and knowledge with team members, working together to resolve issues;
  13. Ensuring that monitoring processes are in place which keep safe those children with SEN who have additional vulnerabilities;
  14. Implementing Quality assurance measures to ensure continuous improvement of the service area;
  15. Engaging with stakeholders in order to seek parental views on the local offer;
  16. Managing and seeking resolutions to complaints or conflict around service delivery;
  17. To accommodate relevant activities or duties commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
