Behaviour Mentor

Smart Education are working with a small alternative provision based in Dudley who are seeking a Behaviour Mentor. This position is for a September 2020 start, and is full-time, long term until the end of the academic year. For the successful Behaviour Mentor, there is also the potential for a permanent contract to be offered.

The successful provision provides at risk pupils aged 11 - 16 with access to education and behavior intervention. Young people attend the provision for either a short term (6 weeks to 1 term) or long term (2 terms+) placements during which their progress is carefully tracked and staff work to improve both academic and attitude outcomes. The setup of the classes are small class sizes of a 1-8 ratio children to adult and each class has a Behaviour Mentor. The staff team are all passionate individuals who work collaboratively to offer the best and most flexible teaching methods for their students. They understand that each and every student comes with a different set of challenges and only after careful planning and building relationships with these pupils will they 'get through' and see these young people achieve, and better yet, with a sense of pride whilst doing it!

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be required to support the Class Teacher in delivering tailored education programmes. You will be a positive role model who is able to provide pupils with useful knowledge and advice on a 1-1 and group basis. You will be tasked with diffusing challenging situations, de-escalating conflict and guiding students towards improved attitudes, efforts and behavior. Your ultimate goal is to help pupils understand the barriers they have to learning and arm them with strategies to overcome these so that they can achieve.

This Behaviour Mentor role would suit an inspirational leader! You must be creative, able to think on your feet and think outside the box about ways in which you can get through to students from various backgrounds. You must be calm, patient and up for a challenge. The rewards are endless when you are successful in this educational setting and for the right candidate the Provision also has generous funding for this role.

If you have a track record in mentoring and supporting students with behavioural needs and an interest in working with young at-risk youths, then please apply below to be considered.
