Teacher of English

SMART Education recruits into Teaching Jobs in Birmingham and across the West Midlands, and into Home Tutor jobs across the UK.

Join a team at an exceptional specialist school in Tipton, West Midlands, dedicated to providing high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education. The school cater to boys and girls aged 6 to 17 years, who have diverse backgrounds and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many of the students also have additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

As a trauma and attachment informed organisation, the school prioritise the well-being of their staff. They provide extensive therapeutic training and support to ensure you are equipped to meet the varied and challenging demands of the work.

The school philosophy revolves around a closely triangulated approach, placing the child at the centre of decision-making. Education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams, and, most importantly, their students work collaboratively to achieve exceptional outcomes for all.

Role:

The school value their teachers as educators of children before educators of subjects. The core of this role lies in understanding each child, fostering professional, nurturing, and positive relationships, and inspiring and motivating students.

We are currently seeking a part-time English specialist who can deliver engaging curricula across Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, and GCSE.

The teachers have a remarkable ability to inspire children, igniting a sense of awe and wonder in their learning. They create real-world connections and relevance within subjects and lessons. By designing exciting and captivating learning opportunities, the teachers challenge and encourage students, whether they are focusing on fundamental concepts or have a special talent or passion for the subject.

Working with the children requires exceptional teachers who can manage complex and challenging behaviours. You will understand the importance of providing consistent attention, effective communication, and a balanced approach of both flexibility and firmness. A non-judgmental attitude is key to building rapport with the students.

The school encourage their teachers to actively contribute to the decision-making processes that shape the school, ensure positive outcomes for the children, and advocate for each individual. The school value your input in developing both the academic curriculum and the range of extra-curricular activities, inviting you to bring your own interests and passions to the table.
