School Caretaker and Mini Bus Driver

Smart Education are currently looking for a school caretaker to work within an excellent school in Birmingham.

This is a full time, permanent role to start ASAP.

The working hours are: 7.45am - 4.45pm (with one or two days being a 6.30pm finish)

In order to apply for this role you MUST have

-Good skills in general maintenance and security routines

-Full Driving Licence and experience driving a minibus

Role – Duties

• Ensuring workplace safety regulations are met

• An understanding of computer and networking concepts

• Dealing with Construction site contractors via instruction from the Bursar

• Fit & able to move furniture and IT equipment around school.

• Responding immediately to equipment breakdowns, fixed faults on-site or arranged for replacement equipment to be installed via Bursary office.

• Imaging, patching, asset tagging, IWB, projectors and PAT testing.

• Dealing with property log book and manage item of property portfolio.

• Gas, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting, CCTV, Pat testing maintains all paperwork and certificates up to date.

• Helping colleagues in catering and housekeeping with various duties.

• Helping Teaching staff with projects.

• Risk assessment

• Testing Fire Alarms weekly

• Testing Emergency lights monthly

• Every 3 months test RCD

• Sprinkler system test weekly

• Check fire extinguishers weekly

• Test water temperatures weekly and flush (legionella ) Water safety checks (Legionella) L8

• Monthly utilities meter reading

• Regularly check heating system, with due regard to appropriate safety requirements, and report all defects to a qualified heating engineer and Bursar.

• Responsible for deliveries of post, stores materials and other goods under COSHH regulations

• Maintenance and Repair DIY Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting carried out

• Dealing with Health & Safety and auditors and report to the Headmaster and Bursar.

• Energy Reports

• Asbestos (Handling, Asbestos)

• Opening and closing of School premises, including gates, doors, windows, fire exits etc

• Reporting acts of vandalism to the Headteacher and Bursar as necessary

• Performing security duties at the School gate before/after School

• Keeping ground and paths clear of debris around the school’s site. Remove rubbish /empty bins etc.

• Safeguarding in schools

• Shared role as Key holder of the premise for opening and lock up.

• Advise Bursar/Headmaster of equipment general repair of equipment around school / hazards.

• Read, record and report all meter readings as required by the Bursar.

• Empty bins/recycling paper.

• Clean school signs, name boards and directional signs windows.

• Arrange repairs etc with contractors with prior approval of the line manager- Bursar.

• Dealt with all bursts, leaks, floods, and breakages as appropriate

• Fire marshal

• Keeping the drains cleaned

• Keeping the site tidy and litter free

• Inspect all outside areas for dangerous materials and remove

• Changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes

• Remove graffiti etc

• Moving of furniture and PE equipment

• Undertake designated gardening duties (Fences Landscape work)

• Repair leaking taps and toilets seats, renewing ball valve washers and floats. Clearing blocked toilets

• Carry out repairs works in order to improve the site as required by the Bursar and Headteacher.

• Minor plaster repairs

• Attend appropriate training courses when required.

• The ability to use my initiative and make quick decisions to deal with unexpected situations

Qualifications Required: MUST have school caretaking experience, full driving licence (including experience driving a minibus)

Salary: £21,500

Hours: 7:45-4:45 Monday to Friday with 1 / 2 days late finishes of 6.30pm
